HOPE

There is hope for MS patients and others with a chronic disease because God said, "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." ... 1 Peter 5:10

Don't Go There

I read this interesting article on  Everyday Health that made a good point about germs & assistive devices.   I don’t leave home without my cane and probably have dropped it a thousand times.   I found the article interesting because I never gave it much thought.   It’s ironic that I didn’t because with MS & the immune system being suppressed, I like everything clean.   I laugh at myself because I say that I must have the cleanest hands in town with perpetually washing my hands. I don’t touch public door knobs. That’s to name a couple of things; with most things one might say I’m over the top. Here is the kicker, I worked in a clinic. A Teaching Moment

The biggest mistake that people make or don’t realize is there is a mental aspect to MS.   After three years, I believe, that is where some of us fail.   With or without the disease, it can be complicated to grasp it all.   As people, we get set in our ways & want to do things a certain way.   Well, you better learn another way because MS sets out to ruin what you’re use to. In knowing about the mental aspect of MS, I have to constantly remind myself that God said, “ You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You” Isaiah 26:3. In my words, I fill my mind with God’s Word so that I have no room for whatever MS tries to throw at me. You have to define what mental means to you. I believe that prayer is a vital part of a successful marriage, because I invite Christ into my marriage to shape each of us as He desires. It is not up to me to change and shape my husband, it is up to Christ, after all He knows so much better than I do. I believe I can bring good to my husband through prayer. Let me lean!

I was watching the news in reference to the Government shutdown. This lady was on there crying because with no pay, her and her son will be homeless. Point being, it is a lesson in it for us all. In one way or the other we will be if not already effected. Lesson being, God is my Provider; it's all just stuff. God wants all of us to lean & depend upon Him. "For kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." 1st Timothy 2:2-4

What Not To Do

I was looking at  Everyday Health and noticed an article about MS and the environment. Smoking was one of the things listed that triggers MS symptoms.   The newsletter states that those who smoke have MS attacks more frequently. There were other triggers listed, but I focused on smoking because I am confused. Confused because I read the part about smoking as an oxymoron.   Why, because if smoking triggers an MS attack then why is marijuana being pushed medically for MS patients? I’m just saying!   Smoke is smoke.   I guess this is another doctor, patient conversation. This blew my mind too, in the same news letter, foods to avoid.  To my knowledge there is no special diet for those with MS.  I guess the following foods can trigger an attack:  Milk, saturated fats, trans fats, sugar, sodium, refined grains, gluten. Beautiful

Today was a beautiful day, a little chilly but beautiful.   It seems like I have been in the house all winter.   Sensitivity to the temperature being hot or cold is another MS symptom.   In getting ready to go out, my husband put on a jacket.   It is spring so I put on a jacket too. My husband said, “No Ruth”, because of your sensitivity, put on a coat.   My response to him was:      I hate to say it, but he was right, I was freezing. Everybody want to feel good, but nobody want to say it. SEX!   I’m just saying what others won’t. That is a topic that my doctor has not discuss with me, yet. I wonder why when that is a MS symptom. I have an excellent doctor but somethings that man let me find out on my own. We all know that MS has a way of introducing itself. I'm Not Going To Be In A Battle About It

I read this quote that went something like, pigeons flock together but eagles fly alone.   I think I’ll fly like an eagle. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”   Isaiah 40:31. If you are listening, everything is heighten with MS.   What I mean is, if you get a cold or have a few choice words with someone; well with MS you get more than just that cold or a difference with someone.   Everything effects MS one way or the other.   Whatever the effect is, it’s usually not in the best interest of the person with MS. Is a person supposed to build a house inside a plastic bubble?   In life, you will be on the mountain top and at times, you can be in the valley low.
